How do I set up my camera and microphone for Kira?
You set up your camera and microphone during the Device Setup step on your Check-In page. On a desktop or laptop, we recommend using Google Chrome as your browser. On iOS devices (iPhone or iPad), use Safari. On Android devices, use Chrome.

Before you start
To help avoid technical issues during Device Setup and your assessment or interview:
- Close all other browser tabs and windows that are not being used for Kira.
- Close any applications that may be using your camera or microphone, such as Zoom, FaceTime, or Photo Booth.
- Close any unnecessary applications that use internet bandwidth or system memory, such as streaming services or file-sharing programs.
- Use an incognito or private browser window. This disables most browser extensions by default and reduces the chance of conflicts. Alternatively, if you prefer to use a regular browser window, disable browser extensions manually — especially ad blockers, Grammarly, or any extensions that block media playback.
Step 1: Allow access to your camera and microphone
When you open Device Setup, your browser will prompt you to allow Kira Talent (app.kiratalent.com) to access your camera and microphone. Click Allow in every prompt that appears.
Chrome, Edge, and Opera: Click Allow in the prompt that appears near the lock icon or tune/slider icon to the left of your address bar.

Firefox: Click Remember this decision and then Allow in the prompt that appears near the camera icon to the left of your address bar.
Safari (Mac): Click Allow when prompted to give the website access to your camera and microphone.
Mobile devices: You will be prompted to allow access to your camera and microphone in the same way. Select Allow when prompted.
Once you have allowed access, you should be able to see yourself on the screen.
Step 2: Select your camera and microphone
At the bottom of the Device Setup page, you can select which camera and microphone to use from the dropdown menus. If you have multiple devices connected (for example, a built-in camera and an external webcam), make sure the correct one is selected.
Step 3: Test your microphone
Say something loudly into your microphone. If the platform detects audio, you will see green bars bounce in the bottom right corner of the screen, and the Start sample recording button will become active.
If the green bars do not respond to your voice, check that the correct microphone is selected in the dropdown, and that your microphone is not muted.
Step 4: Record and review a sample video
Click Start sample recording to record a short sample video. Be sure to speak clearly and loudly during the recording so you can confirm that both your video and audio are working.
After recording, play back your sample video. Check that:
- You can see yourself clearly in the video.
- You can hear yourself speaking in the playback.
If both video and audio are working, click Yes, return to Check-In to complete Device Setup.
What if I cannot see or hear myself in the sample video?
