Can I practice before my Kira assessment or live interview?

You may have a Practice step on your Check-In page, depending on how the school has set up your assessment or interview. The practice lets you get familiar with the Kira platform and confirm that your camera and microphone are working properly before your real assessment or interview begins.

How do practice questions work?

Practice questions are always presented in an asynchronous format, even if your real assessment is a live interview. You may be asked to record a timed video response, provide a written response, or a mix of both types of questions, depending on how the school has set up the practice.

How are practice questions different from real assessment questions?

  • During the practice, you can redo questions. During the real assessment or interview, you only have one attempt per question or station.
  • During the practice, you can replay your responses. During the real assessment or interview, you cannot replay your responses.
  • Only your responses to the real assessment or interview are evaluated. No one has access to your practice recordings except you.
  • The practice questions may or may not be related to the real assessment or interview questions. Preparation and response times may also differ.

Do I have to complete the practice?

If a Practice step appears on your Check-In page, you may be required to complete it before you can launch the real assessment or live interview waiting room. The assessment or waiting room step on your Check-In page will be greyed out until you have completed all required steps beforehand, which may include the practice.

Make sure to complete every question in the practice before you go back to the Check-In if it is required.

If it is optional, we still recommend you try the practice step first as it is the best way to get comfortable with how timed questions work in Kira before your real assessment or interview.

Will I always have a practice step?

Not always. Whether a Practice step is included depends on how the school has set up your assessment or interview. If you do not see a Practice step on your Check-In page, you will be able to go directly to your real assessment or interview.
