What are the types of Kira assessments?

Kira has two types of assessments: an asynchronous assessment and a live interview.

How do I know which type I was invited to?

Your invitation email will typically indicate which type of assessment you've been invited to:

  • Live interview: The email will usually use the word "interview" instead of "assessment." If you've been scheduled, it will also include the phrase "Your schedule is as follows:" followed by the date and time your interview will start. Your Check-In page will also say "Enter Waiting Room" as the final step.
  • Asynchronous assessment: The email will usually use the word "assessment." If there is a deadline, the email will include the phrase "Your response is due by:" followed by the due date. If there is no deadline set, a due date may not be mentioned. We still suggest you start your assessment as soon as you are prepared.

Asynchronous assessment (one-way interview)

In an asynchronous assessment, you record timed video and/or written responses to questions that have been pre-recorded by the school. Each question has a designated amount of prep time and response time, and you can track your remaining time on screen.

You complete this assessment on your own time. There is no live interviewer — this is a one-way interview.

Live interview (two-way interview)

In a live interview, you connect directly with an interviewer in real time and move through different questions or stations automatically. Each question or station has a designated amount of prep time and live interaction time, and you can track your remaining time on screen.

This interview is scheduled for a specific date and time. You will be speaking with a live interviewer — this is a two-way interview.

What is Kira used for?

Both assessment types give you the opportunity to showcase your personality, communication skills, and other important qualities to the school's admissions team beyond your written application.
