Error stating "we don't have access to your camera or microphone"

NotAllowedError: Permission denied

Your browser has blocked Kira from accessing your camera or microphone, either for your current session or globally.

Chrome, Edge, and Opera: Click the lock icon (or tune icon) to the left of the address bar. Make sure both Camera and Microphone are set to Allow instead of Block. Refresh the page.

Firefox: Click the lock icon to the left of the address bar. If you see Blocked Temporarily next to Camera or Microphone, click the small X to remove the block. Refresh the page.

Safari: Go to Safari > Settings > Websites > Camera (and Microphone). Make sure app.kiratalent.com is set to Allow. Refresh the page.

If this does not resolve the issue, check your browser's site settings to make sure app.kiratalent.com is not on the blocked list for camera or microphone access:

  • Chrome: Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Camera (and Microphone). If app.kiratalent.com appears under "Not allowed to use your camera," click on it and change the permission to Allow.
  • Edge: Go to Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Camera (and Microphone). If app.kiratalent.com appears under the Block list, click on it and change the permission to Allow.
  • Firefox: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down to Permissions, and click Settings next to Camera (and Microphone). If app.kiratalent.com appears with a Block status, change it to Allow.
  • Safari: Go to Safari > Settings > Websites > Camera (and Microphone). If app.kiratalent.com appears with Deny, change it to Allow.

NotFoundError: Requested device not found

Your browser cannot find a camera or microphone connected to your device. This could mean your camera or microphone is not working, is being used by another application, or is not connected.

Try the following:

  • Make sure your camera and microphone are connected and powered on (if external).
  • Close any other applications that may be using your camera or microphone, such as Zoom, FaceTime, or Photo Booth.
  • Try using an incognito or private browser window.
  • If the issue persists, test your camera and microphone in another application to confirm they are working.

NotReadableError: Concurrent mic process limit

This error typically occurs in Firefox when multiple applications or browser tabs are trying to use your camera or microphone at the same time. Close any other applications or tabs that may be using your devices, and try again. If the issue persists, try using a different browser such as Chrome.

OverconstrainedError

This error typically means your camera or microphone is being used by too many applications at once. Close all other applications, then try completing Device Setup again in an incognito or private window.

"We can't detect your camera or microphone"

This error means the Kira platform cannot detect or use your camera or microphone. Try the following:

  1. Click the lock icon (or tune icon) to the left of the address bar and try toggling camera and microphone permissions off and back on.
  2. Click Reset permissions if available.
  3. In Chrome, click Site settings, then click Delete data and Reset permissions.
  4. Refresh the page and allow access again when prompted.
  5. If the above does not work, try using an incognito window.

"Something went wrong while accessing your camera and microphone"

This error may indicate a hardware issue, a browser-specific problem, or interference from a browser extension. Try the following:

  • Close all other applications that may be using your camera or microphone.
  • Try using an incognito or private browser window to rule out extension conflicts.
  • Try using a different supported browser.
  • Restart your device and try again.

"Please ensure your camera/microphone is connected and access is allowed"

This error appears during a live interview when the platform cannot access your camera or microphone.

Try the following:

  1. Make sure your camera and microphone are working in another application.
  2. Close your browser completely, reopen your unique invitation link, and allow access to your camera and microphone again when prompted.
  3. If that does not work, try selecting a different camera or microphone from the dropdown menu in the interview.
  4. Try using a different supported browser.
  5. Restart your device and try again.
  6. If possible, go through Device Setup again from your Check-In page before rejoining the interview.

"There was an issue with your device"

This error appears on your Check-In page and means that your previously completed Device Setup is no longer valid. Complete Device Setup again using your current browser, then continue with your practice or assessment as normal.

If the issue persists after completing Device Setup again, try the following:

  • Make sure you are using a supported browser and device.
  • Close any other applications that may be using your camera or microphone.
  • Try using an incognito or private browser window.
  • Try using a different supported browser.
  • Restart your device and try again.
